盧西亞恩是一位健康狀況每況愈下的戲劇演員。他在舞臺上忘詞，日常生活中感到困惑和格格不入。最終，他決定結束自己的演藝生涯，不久后搬進了一家養老院。在這個新環境里，這位年邁的老人深深懷念他已故的妻子。他開始做一些似乎變得真實的噩夢。在其中一個夢境中，他發現了一條通往一個充滿魔幻色彩的世界的通道，這個世界與他的劇院有著迷惑性的相似之處。
盧西亞恩開始在兩個平行的維度中生活——現實生活和童話世界，這兩個世界逐漸相互依存并交織在一起。他對這個虛構世界的沉浸最終引向了一個出人意料的結局。這是一個關于生命流逝的苦樂參半的論述。盧西亞恩創造的童話世界與其說是對死亡的隱喻，不如說是對死亡即將到來的象征性和解。
